1996 Chris-Craft with 494 king cobra

I'm considering buying a 1996 Chris-Craft with a rebuilt 494 King Cobra engine that won't turn over. The seller's asking $2,700, less than the trailer alone is worth. I found a new engine for around $8,000. Should I buy it? Any idea why it won't start or total repair costs?

Not sure about if parts are still available for the King Cobra and repairs can get expensive fast. If it's just an electrical or wiring issue, you might get lucky. But if the engine's seized, you're looking at a full repower plus labor.

That's a tough call, and there's a reason the seller is asking that price. A rebuilt engine that won't turn over is a huge red flag. It's best you find out first why it won't turn over before you put any money down! I agree with the guys here. Even with a new motor, you're looking at a serious project, and that's just for the engine. I mean if you're a skilled mechanic with time on your hands, maybe it's worth the risk, but for most, it's a money pit.
